Summary	Observation of an object moving without noise at very high speed with abrupt changes of direction
Detailed description	On May 30, 1989 around 23:15, three forest rangers doing a round of monitoring observe 3 projector-like objects emitting flashes of light with quick intervals. After becoming immobile for 20 seconds, these three lights leave verticaly at very high speed making zigzags. After a few seconds, the phenomenon returns right above the witnesses and become immobile exactly where it left the first time. A red light ignites in the middle of the three lights before setting out again again by changing several times of direction. A Jaguar fighter Jet passed shortly after but could not be confused with the phenomenon observed which remained quiet. The investigations carried out near the air base did not make it possible to confirm the testimony of the 3 witnesses. The phenomenon observed could not be identified.

Releasing of the GEIPAN files

More than 350 cases are available right now representing a great part of the ground observations made during the last 20 last years. Addition 22-03-2007

Approximately 80 new cases of observations were put online, which changes the number of published cases to approximately 440, covering a large part of the observations made during the years 1986 to 2005.Addition 02-05-2007

Following the opening of the site, many direct testimonies arrived at GEIPAN. For older testimonies those are available on this site. Their possible publishing will be studied later on. The possible release will be studied later on, only the cases having been the evaluated have been released. The most recent cases will need to be reviewed and presented to the authorities before being released. Posted 11-05-2007

In connection with the publication of report/ratio COMETA. Some net surfers were amazed and moved by the publication of COMETA report on the GEIPAN website. It is specified that this publication does not mean an approval of the report by the CNES. The conditions in which this study was conducted by a private commission were presented by the person in charge at the committee which could judge the report to be serious, independently from the conclusions brough forward by their authors. The purpose of this document, which has been requested many times, is simply to bring more information on an aspect of the study of the UAPs in France. It should be noted that the version published is incomplete and will be corrected as soon as possible. Posted 11-05-2007

The amount of traffic currently visiting GEIPAN does not enable us to answer individual requests for specific research for the cases presented. We would like to remind you that only the cases observed in France post- 1988 are presented here. These cases were reviewed by the authorities. All of the data processed by the GEIPAN will be added gradually as time goes on. Even during this time, certain cases are still in the course of validation and will be soon put online. We invite you to continue to come back and to see updates of the site. Posted 05-04-2007 We announce a study coming under the "Cherche Midi" Edition, on April 5th, 2007. That study is the work of a collaboration written under the direction of Yves Sillard, president of the GEIPAN comity. This work is called "Phénomènes aérospatiaux Non identifiés un défi à la science" (Unidentifed Aerial Phenomena - A New Scientic Challenge) to expose the study related to UAPs by the scientific community. Taking into account the amount of material on the site we temporarily have had to simplify the search engine which allows only one choice per area. We appologize for that. Full functionaliy will be restored as soon as possible. In the meantime, we would like to remind you of the various classifications given to the cases and used in all the reports by the GEIPAN:

Class A UAP: Observation explained without any type of ambiguity.
Class B UAP: Observation where the selected hypothesis by GEIPAN is very probable.
Class C UAP: Observation that couldn't be explained, due to lack of information.
Class D UAP: Unexplained observations, in spite of the information available.

Releasing Information of the GEIPAN This site will allow for us to place, while respecting the privacy of the citizens, disposal of the public all of the data collected for 30 years by the GEIPAN on the UFO phenomena. Right now nearly 25 percent of the cases observed are available and researchable, which represents the majority of the 20 last years of observations. The site content will be regularly updated with new validation and confirmation as time goes by, including photographic documents and videos which are currently being digitalized. The GEIPAN This collection studies and provides information on the UFO phenomena. Since the beginning of time, man has observed with interest, even with fear the phenomena of all observable types in the sky. And since the beginning of time, the manifestations of the sky are the subject of the most various interpretations, based on the belief in higher entities or divine powers. For example, in Greek mythology, it was thought that natural phenomena such as wind, storms, and lightning were caused by the gods who expressed their approval or anger with respect to people. Thanks to further research and discoveries, man could demystify considerably these phenomena and look further into the knowledge of his environment. The appearance, at the XXème century, of new techniques, new means of exploration, and consequently, of new machines circulating in space, brought new questions that needed answers. To answer the questions and wonderings of the population regarding the UFO phenomena (SIDE), is thus one of the missions entrusted to Geipan.

OVNI, UFO, UAP? The acronym OVNI (Flying Object Not Identified) is the translation of English term UFO (Unidentified Flying Object). The examination of testimonies and the results of the investigations show that this term is generally unsuitable: in the majority of the cases, the observations describe a known or unknown phenomenon, generally luminous but without the presence of a materialized object. The term UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon) is thus more suitable.
